A relative after a visit to the Metropolitan Archives to search Wandsworth prison records just sent me this....
Reg No: 11668 Committal: 11 March 1901 Southwark Offence: Assaulted a Policeman Sentence: 6 weeks hard labour Education: IMP (?) Age: 26 years Height: 5' 3" Trade: labourer Religion: C of E Born: London Previous Convictions: 3 Discharged: 20 April 1901 Does anyone know what Education IMP means? -------------------- Genealogy, The science of confusing the dead and irritating the living!

I have seen many such entries in other prison registers. What I have seen before in the Education column is R + W Imp...which translates as Reads and Writes Imperfectly. I would suspect this may be a shortened version.
