A relative after a visit to the Metropolitan Archives to search Wandsworth prison records just sent me this....

Reg No: 11668
Committal: 11 March 1901 Southwark
Offence: Assaulted a Policeman
Sentence: 6 weeks hard labour
Education: IMP (?)
Age: 26 years
Height: 5' 3"
Trade: labourer
Religion: C of E
Born: London
Previous Convictions: 3
Discharged: 20 April 1901

Does anyone know what Education IMP means?

I have seen many such entries in other prison registers. What I have seen before in the Education column is R + W Imp...which translates as Reads and Writes Imperfectly. I would suspect this may be a shortened version.
