I have a Charles Egan born 1844 in Rotchford Bridge near Mullangar Westmeath Ireland his parents where Charles and Mary nee Dunn. Charles and his sister Elizabeth arrived in Australia in 1865, they where meet by there brother Thomas who was a police and later Charles joined the force. there mother was deceased before they came to Australia in 1865 I am looking for any connection to the Egan and Dunn families.
Annagirl In the shipping records it states that Charles's parents where Thomas and Ann( might be Mary Ann ) and I believe they had another brother James not sure if he ever came to Australia |

Hi
The 1901 census for Ireland has a James Egan, aged 56 - so of an age to be a brother to Charles and Elizabeth - as the Workhouse Master in Robinstown Levinge, Mullingar Rural, Westmeath. He's single and a Roman Catholic and was born in Westmeath. There's another James Egan of the right sort of age in Westmeath, too. He's a farmer, aged 54, and has a wife Bridget, and three children. They're in Farthingstown, Castlelost. Neither seems to be around in 1911. Mary |

Hi
You can search Irish BMD indexes - free! - at http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch...;c=fs%3A1408347 . I find it can sometimes be tricky to get into. If you find yourself on the overall family search pilot page click on Europe on the map then scroll down to Ireland and choose Ireland Civil Registration 1845-1958. The 1901 and 1911 censuses are available - free again!! - at www.census.nationalarchives.ie/ . You can view the original household schedule if you want to. As you say, that James Egan seems a likely lad! Mary |
