I have an ancestor, Samuel GEORGE, who was in the Coldstream Regiment of Foot Guards from 1813 to 1824. I would love to know where he served if anyone can help me in this respect. He enrolled at Westminster, London.

Hi Ellen
There are several Samuel George entries if you search The National Archives catalogue but I can't see one which is clearly yours. Do you know where he was born? Have you tried this website: www.rhqcoldmgds.co.uk/shop/page/3?shop_param= Mary |

They insisted they had all soldiers and wouldn't accept there were files at Kew which there definitely were!! That was where I found out his signing on date of 1.4.1813 and discharge date of 6.10.1824. Of course it was late in the day and I didn't have time to explore more and as I live in Derby, I've not been able to go down to London again. The book gave his place of birth as Staines, London and I expect it would have been around 1795. Ellen |
