I wonder if any body knows what information I would get.I have enquired about my Fathers full military history in WW1. I have his reg number ect, there is a charge, which I can under stand, but I did not like to ask what information I would get.
I know his regiment the medals he won,would the Archivist tell where and what battles he fought in, and how he was injured.

What I know is, Richard Henry Richards. medal card 1914-1915
Regiment:Grenadier Guards,Guards Machine Gun Regiment.
Regimental Number:15786,1546.Theater of war,(1) France.medals Victory,British and15 star.
I believe he was shot and gassed.
Would I learn any more about his service from paying the fee to, the Archivist,Regimental Headquarters Grenadier
Guards. Any info would be appreciated.

rosieloo,

From what I understand, the Guards regiments (incl. Grenadier Guards) hold their own archives/service records from the Great War and that these survive in their relevant headquarters. Therefore, I think it is certainly worth contacting them to see if they can assist with your research and locate further documents relating to your chap. The service record might shed some more light on his military service and reveal extra details about pay, injuries, transfers, locations, discipline etc.
